Rytr vs Grammarly
They do different jobs. Rytr drafts short text from a prompt. Grammarly checks writing you already have, and its free plan is $0 a month. A draft still needs a person to read it. The order is that split, not a commission.
Checked October 2026.
| Rytr | Grammarly | |
|---|---|---|
| Pick it when | You want a first draft of a short piece and you will edit it before you send it. | You write in English and want a checker in the browser and in documents. |
| What it does | Writes short drafts such as emails, captions, and paragraphs from a prompt, and can continue or reword text you already have. | Checks spelling, grammar, and tone in the browser and in documents. Paid plans add rewrites and a larger monthly allowance of AI prompts. |
| Who it is for | People who want a first draft of a short piece and will edit it before they send it. | People who write in English and want a checker sitting inside email, docs, and the browser. |
| Free plan | Free forever, no card, at $0. The plan includes 10,000 characters a month, one language, and no plagiarism checks. | The plans page lists Free at $0 USD a month, with 100 AI prompts a month for generating text. |
| Price we checked | The page showed $7.50 and $24.16 next to a yearly toggle and a monthly toggle. This page does not state which figure is the month-to-month bill. | Grammarly's support article, read in October 2026, lists Pro at $30 USD per member per month, $60 USD per member for three months, or $144 USD per member per year, which it calls a $12 average per month. The plans page leads with $12 USD and does not put “per month” beside that figure. |
| The catch | The free plan is a character cap, not unlimited writing. Read which billing toggle is selected before you pay. Generated text can sound generic. Read it before you send it. | The $12 price is the annual average, not the month-to-month bill. Pro is priced per member. Regional currency can differ at checkout. |
Questions
- Is the $12 Grammarly figure the monthly bill?
- The support article says $12 is the annual average. The month-to-month Pro price in that article is $30 USD per member per month.
- Why is Rytr's paid price missing?
- A yearly toggle and a monthly toggle were both on the page, so we did not pick one number.
- Which Visit link is an affiliate link?
- Rytr. Grammarly's button goes to the official site.
- Will either tool write the finished piece?
- No. You still have to read it.
