Best AI voice tools for beginners
These tools record a conversation, clean a file, or turn text into speech. They do not find listeners, and they do not make a show for you. Pick the job you have: a voiceover, a recording, or a cleanup pass. The order on this page is the order we wrote it. It is not a ranking by commission.

ElevenLabs
- What it does
- Turns text into spoken audio, clones a voice, and can make sound effects and music. Everything draws from one credit pool.
- Who it is for
- People who need a voiceover and do not want to record one, and who will read the license.
- Free plan
- The free plan includes a monthly credit allotment and does not include the commercial license that Starter adds.
- Price we checked
- Free is $0 with 10,000 credits a month. Starter is $6 a month for 30,000 credits. Creator is $22 a month. Pro is $99 a month. A first-month discount was posted through October 18, 2026 ($1 for Starter and $11 for Creator). Those discounts are not the ongoing price. Annual billing is 10 months' price for the year.
- The catch
- Free audio is not licensed for commercial use. Credits are shared across voice, music, and dubbing, and free credits do not roll over. Say when a voice is synthetic, especially if it could be mistaken for a real person.

Speechify
- What it does
- Reads text aloud and offers a large set of text-to-speech voices on the paid plan.
- Who it is for
- People who want to listen to their own drafts or articles, more than people recording a podcast.
- Free plan
- You can start on the free plan. Premium is the paid voice library.
- Price we checked
- A free plan is listed. Premium is $29 per month, billed monthly. The page said prices shown are per month, billed monthly.
- The catch
- An annual price was not in the text we read, so the $29 figure is the monthly bill. This is a listening tool. It is not a license to clone someone else's voice.

Descript
- What it does
- Edits video and podcasts by editing the transcript. It also removes filler words and can generate speech.
- Who it is for
- People recording talks, lessons, or interviews who are comfortable editing text.
- Free plan
- The free plan can record, transcribe, and edit, with a 1-hour media limit and tighter AI and export limits. No card is required to start.
- Price we checked
- Free plan at $0, with 1 media hour a month. Hobbyist is $24 per person per month, or $16 on annual billing. Creator is $35, or $24 annually. Business is $65, or $50 annually. The page says annual billing saves up to 35%, which is how the lower number was read.
- The catch
- Media hours and AI credits are separate limits. Voice cloning and avatars are on paid plans. Generated speech can sound like a real person, so say when a voice is synthetic.
4 · Free tier
Riverside
- What it does
- Records remote interviews in the browser, with separate tracks, and includes some AI editing on paid plans.
- Who it is for
- People recording conversations with a guest who needs a stable recording more than a live stream.
- Free plan
- You can record on the free plan. Paid plans add the higher production limits.
- Price we checked
- Free is $0 per month. Pro + Live Studio is $29 per month, or $24 per month when $288 is billed annually. Grow + Live Studio is $39 per month, or $34 per month when $408 is billed annually.
- The catch
- Paid plans offer a 14-day trial. A webinar plan was also on the page, but its monthly and yearly figures did not line up in the text we saved, so that price is not listed here.
5 · Free tier
Auphonic
- What it does
- Cleans up a recording: levels, noise, and some filler cuts, then exports the file.
- Who it is for
- People publishing a podcast or a voice memo who want the audio evened out without learning a full editor.
- Free plan
- Two hours a month are free, and those productions include a jingle. Unused free credits do not stack.
- Price we checked
- Free covers 2 hours of processed audio a month. Recurring credits start at $13 a month for 9 hours (S), or $11 a month billed yearly ($132). Prices are before VAT or sales tax.
- The catch
- The free export adds a jingle. That matters if you publish the file as-is. Prices are before VAT or sales tax. The $13 figure is the month-to-month start. The $11 figure is yearly billing.

Cleanvoice
- What it does
- Removes filler words, mouth noise, and long silences from a spoken recording.
- Who it is for
- People with a finished recording who want a faster cleanup pass.
- Free plan
- The page offers a free trial with no credit card. It does not spell out an ongoing free monthly allowance.
- Price we checked
- Pay as you go starts at $11 for 5 hours of processed audio ($2.20/hour), with packs at $20 for 10 hours and $45 for 30 hours; credits are valid for two years. Subscription starts at $11 per month for 10 hours ($1.10/hour), then $28 for 30 hours and $90 for 100 hours; unused subscription credits roll over up to three times the plan limit. Prices on the page are listed without VAT. A free trial is offered with no credit card.
- The catch
- Prices on the page are listed without VAT, and the title still says from €10 a month while the body lists dollars. Pay-as-you-go credits last two years, which is easy to confuse with the monthly subscription. Read whether you are buying a pack or a renewing plan.

Questions
- Will these tools make a podcast for me?
- No. They record, clean, or speak text you already have. You still choose the topic, and you still have to publish the file.
- Can I use a free plan for a commercial project?
- Not always. ElevenLabs says free audio is not licensed for commercial use. Read the free-plan note on each listing before you publish.
- Do I need all six?
- No. One voiceover tool, one recorder, or one cleanup tool is enough to start. The rest solve a different job.
- Are these ranked by who pays a commission?
- No. The order is the order on this page. ElevenLabs is the only affiliate Visit link in this guide. That does not move it above the others.
- Will a synthetic voice get me listeners?
- No. A voice file is not an audience. Say when a voice is synthetic if someone could mistake it for a real person.
